Book Review: I Will Teach You To Be Rich UK Version

by | Financial Education | 0 comments

It’s been a little while since my last book review, but here we are! This week I’m reviewing probably one of my favourite personal finance books that I’ve read so far. This week I’m reviewing I Will Teach You To Be Rich UK version by Ramit Sethi. Each review will answer the following questions;

Who? Wrote this book? Why they’re qualified? (if they’re qualified..) What? Is this book on about? What’s the topic of conversation? Where? Can I buy this book and where will it take me? When? Should I read this book? At what point in my journey? Why? Would I recommend this book?

I Will Teach You To Be Rich UK Version by Ramit Sethi

I brought this book for myself on Christmas Day from Amazon along with some other personal finance books from my wishlist. This is the second book I read from that haul, but easily the most useful.Right from the get-go Ramit is easy to relate to and seems like a super fun guy. I would definitely be his friend. Just like it says on the front cover.. no guilt, no excuses, and no BS!

In short, I Will Teach You To Be RichUK Version has nine chapters, each outlining an area of personal finance and how to approach and tackle it, with real-life examples of success from readers of his first edition which was published in America.

That’s important to note actually, when purchasing this book, ensure you’re getting the UK edition! Ramit has worked with a team in the UK to translate American personal finance knowledge to a UK audience and it is done brilliantly. You are reminded throughout that this has primarily had a US audience, but don’t be afraid anything will be lost in translation. It’s all there, even ISAs!

WHO?

Ramit Sethi is an Indian-American from a middle-class family and was told from the get-go that he’d have to pay his own way for college (university for us UK folk). He applied for 70 scholarships and after securing a check for $2,000 he invested it in the stock market and lost half of it right away… This is one of the things I loved right away when reading I Will Teach You To Be Rich, this is a guy who has learned all this the hard way! Trial and error and self-education. After this loss, Ramit decided to educate himself on all things personal finance so he’d never make the mistake again (smart) and now he’s reaching millions with his bestselling book.

WHAT?

I Will Teach You To Be Rich UK Version is a 9 chapter journey through all things personal finance. From challenging your money mindset, how to use a credit card correctly, pay off debt, use bank accounts to your advantage, investing basics, effortless savings plans, and much more. The book is just over 300 pages long, and honestly, it took me no time at all to read. I focused on reading a chapter at a time, putting it down, and really thinking about what I’d read before moving on to the next. That’s because each chapter is stuffed full of useful and actionable knowledge and tips to better your finances.

The book is structured as a six-week program, but there’s no reason why you can’t take it at your own pace.

WHERE?

I bought this book on Amazon and I have included links to the exact page I used throughout this post. However, I believe this book is available in all good bookstores (lockdown permitting).

Wherever you are on your financial journey, this book has the potential to propel you onto the next steps.

WHEN?

As I mentioned above, I do believe that anyone could read this book, no matter their knowledge level, and come out with something useful. That being said, it’s definitely a great place to start if you’re feeling overwhelmed with it all. Due to the book’s structure, you really can follow it like a course and go from financial zero to financial hero.

WHY?

I Will Teach You To Be Rich UK Version is one of the best personal finance books I’ve read. It’s definitely the most practical and I do honestly recommend everyone to read it no matter what point in your journey you are at. This book literally walks you through your financial life. It simplifies complicated topics and lays out practical steps to live your best financial life.
